Title: The Romeo Catchers
Author: Alys Arden
Series: The Casquette Girls
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: May 23, 2017
Summary: Is blood thicker than magic in La Nouvelle-Orléans?
Tormented by the fate she condemned her mother to, and by the lies she’s forced to tell to cover it up, Adele scours Storm-ravaged New Orleans for the truth about her family’s magical past. But every turn leads her back to the one person she's determined to forget: Niccolò Medici. Not even the multitude of enchanted locks on the attic door trapping Nicco within can break their connection.
Sensing Nicco calling to Adele, Isaac tries relentlessly to keep her from exploring paths too dark that would endanger them all. But a new threat is rising: the Medici’s presence has attracted something else to New Orleans…an older enemy, one that will bring Isaac’s haunted past to life, test the witches’ friendships, and jeopardize Adele and Isaac’s blossoming relationship.
In this spellbinding continuation of The Casquette Girls saga, Adele must draw on the past—from seventeenth-century Florence, a time bubbling with alchemy and fraternal betrayal—and sort history from fantasy if she is to have any chance of saving her mother, her coven, and her magic.
Thoughts: The Romeo Catchers is the sequel to The Casquette Girls, which definitely was my favorite book from last year. This was a brilliant sequel. In this continuation we got a story from different points of view. I loved learning about the Medici Brothers riveting backstory. Isaac and Adele learning their new powers and oh, that ending. I can't wait for more. Ms. Arden is an amazing storyteller. This is really a statement for the whole series, but here it is....If you didn't go into this book loving New Orleans, by the end of the book/series, you will. A must read.

[Review]: Star Wars: Lost Stars by Claudia Gray
Title: Lost Stars
Author: Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: September 4, 2015
Summary: The reign of the Galactic Empire has reached the Outer Rim of Jelucan, where aristocratic Thane Kyrell and rural villager Ciena Ree bond over their love of flying. Enrolling at the Imperial Academy is nothing less than a dream come true for both of them. But Thane sours on the dream when he sees firsthand the horrific tactics the Empire uses to maintain it's ironclad rule.
Bitter and disillusioned, he joins the fledgling Rebellion--putting Ciena in an unbearable position between her loyalty to the Empire and her love for the man she's known since childhood.
Now on opposite sides of the war, will these friends turned foes ever find a way to be together, or will duty tear them--and the galaxy--apart?
Star Wars: Lost Stars includes all-new post- Star Wars: Return of the Jedi content, as well as clues about the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Thoughts: Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell are only 8 when they become the best of friends. Ciena is from the valley, while Thane is a second waver and comes from a wealthy family. But they don't care. They are friends and love flying together with hopes of going to the Imperial Academy. What they don't know is how evil the Empire is or how the war will change their lives in the most shocking ways.
This was a fantastic read. I've read a few Star Wars books, but so for this is my favorite. It's a bit of long read at 551, but definitely worth the time. Lost Stars takes place during the Galactic Civil War. Revisit the Death Star and it's destruction, Battle of Hoth & the Battle of Endor, this time from the point of view of Thane and Ciena. If your a Star Wars fan and thinking of skipping this one because it YA, don't. It's damn good read and it has everything you love about the movies.

[Review]: The Chess Queen Enigma by Colleen Gleason
Title: The Chess Queen Enigma
Author: Colleen Gleason
Series: Stoker & Holmes
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: October 6, 2015
I received this book from Chronicle Books, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes have reluctantly agreed to act as social chaperones and undercover bodyguards for Princess Lurelia of Betrovia, who has arrived in London to deliver a litter with the location of an ancient chess queen that's been missing for centuries.
But when the letter--which will heal a centuries-old rift between England and the Betrovians--is stolen out from under Evaline and Mina's watchful eyes, the two girls are forced into a high stakes race to ensure they find the chess queen before anyone else does. . . including their foes, the Ankh.
For the chess queen is not only a historic symbol of a woman's political power, but it has literal power as well--the queen will unlock the chessboard, revealing both treasures and ancient secrets the Ankh would kill to possess. It will take Mina's smarts and Evaline's strength to beat the thief and untangle this mystery before it's too late.
Thoughts: Mina & Evaline are given the task of entertaining and keeping an eye on Princess Lurelia of Betrovia. With vampires around and the Ankh still on the loose the girls will definitely have a lot on their hands.
Ms. Gleason has written an excellent addition to this series. Mina Holmes was a bit more likable in this one. The last two books I really didn't like her at all. But towards the end of book three here, I started to like her more. I loved all the Queen Elizabeth/history bits that were part of the story. The Chess Queen Enigma is full of mystery and intrigue. Had a sweet ending, not so much of a cliffhanger, but I look forward to their next case.

[Review]: The Kill Order by James Dashner
Title: The Kill Order
Author: James Dashner
Series: The Maze Runner Prequel
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: August 14, 2012
Summary: Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the earth and mankind fell to disease.
Mark and Trina were there when it happened, and they survived. But surviving the sun flares was easy compared to what came next. Now a disease of rage and lunacy races across the eastern United States, and there’s something suspicious about its origin. Worse yet, it’s mutating, and all evidence suggests that it will bring humanity to its knees.
Mark and Trina are convinced there’s a way to save those left living from descending into madness. And they’re determined to find it—if they can stay alive. Because in this new, devastated world, every life has a price. And to some, you’re worth more dead than alive.
Thoughts: I recently start reading The Maze Runner series. I really enjoyed the first book and loved the movie. Since The Kill Order is a prequel I thought I'd read it before moving on to the rest of the books. It was a good read, action packed. The Prequel tells the story of Mark, Trina and their group after the sun flares. But for me, it was a bit disappointing too. I was really hoping we'd learn more about the gladers before the events in The Maze Runner. I can't wait to dive into the the rest of the series.

[Review]: The Casquette Girls by Alys Arden
Title: The Casquette Girls
Author: Alys Arden
Genre: Young Adult/Southern Gothic
Release Date: October 31, 2013
Summary: Seven girls tied by time. Five powers that bind... One curse to lock the horrors away. One attic to keep the monsters at bay.
After the Storm of the Century rips apart New Orleans, Adele Le Moyne and her father are among the first to return to the city following the mandatory evacuation. Adele wants nothing more than for life to return to normal, but with the silent city resembling a mold-infested war zone, a parish-wide curfew, and mysterious new faces lurking in the abandoned French Quarter, normal will have to be redefined.
Events too unnatural – even for New Orleans – lead Adele to an attic that has been sealed for three hundred years, and the chaos she unleashes threatens not only her life but everyone she knows.
Caught suddenly in a hurricane of eighteenth-century myths and monsters, Adele must quickly untangle a web of magic that links the climbing murder rate back to her own ancestors. But who can you trust in a city where everyone has a secret, and where keeping them can be a matter of life and death – unless, that is, you’re immortal
Thoughts: I came across this book on Facebook. I had recently read about the casquette girls who traveled from France to New Orleans in 1728, so this was an instant buy for me. I loved, loved The Casquette Girls, once I started I couldn't put it down. The history, mysteries and the legends pull you in. Adele and her family history was intoxicating, I look forward to reading more. The Casquette Girls is gritty, spooky and magical. I can't explain it but when I read a book where New Orleans is the setting this is the type of story/book I hope to find. If you love New Orleans or just love reading about it and the history this is a must read.

[Mini-Review]: If I Stay & Where She Went by Gayle Forman
I watched If I Stay when it came out on DVD. I enjoyed it and knew with that last scene I had to read the books.
If I Stay
By Gayle Forman
4 Stars
Description: In the blink of an eye everything changes. Seventeen year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall what happened afterwards, watching her own damaged body being taken from the wreck. Little by little she struggles to put together the pieces- to figure out what she has lost, what she has left, and the very difficult choice she must make.
Thoughts: If I Stay was absolutely wonderful and heartbreaking at the same time. I loved all the characters. Mia and Adam's journey was an exciting one. But I also loved Mia's parents too. They had such an amazing relationship with their kids. If you do end up reading this book, I must warn you... you won't be able to resist reading book two to find out what happens to Mia & Adam.
Where She Went
By Gayle Forman
4 Stars
Description: It's been three years since the devastating accident... three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever.
Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Julliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future - and each other.
Thoughts: This sequel is done in Adam's point of view. It takes place three years after the events in If I Stay. I wasn't a fan of Adam's POV at first, but he grows on you. In this one I really connected with what Adam. The heartache and dysfunction he goes through. Things are very up and down in this one, you really don't know how things will go, but I loved it just the same. I would like to see Where She Went made into a movie, but I haven't heard anything about it.

[AudioBook Review]: ARV-3 by Cameo Renae
Title: ARV - 3
Author: Cameo Renae
Narrator: Erin Moon
Series: The After Light Saga
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: December 23, 2014
I received this audiobook from Audible, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: The beginning of the end. The Apocalypse.
A nuclear fallout wiped out every living thing on the planet, except for a few thousand of us who took shelter in underground bunkers across the globe. Now, after thirteen long years, we were finally able to return to the topside to begin to rebuild.
We thought we were alone. We were never more wrong.
Before the fallout, scientists had worked on creating an anti-radiation vaccine (ARV). The first two attempts failed, but despite the incomplete tests and results, the government approved and distributed the third serum to the masses in an effort to aid those who had no shelter.
It worked, keeping those who remained on the topside alive, but it also altered and mutated them. This new and infectious threat had completely outnumbered us. Now, we not only had to rebuild our planet. We would have to fight for it.
My name is Abigail Park. I’m seventeen, and this is my story.
Thoughts: I hadn't heard of ARV-3 or the author Cameo Renae before, but the description definitely caught my eye. Abigail Park is a 17 year old who grew up in an apocalypse living in a underground bunker for 13 years with several other people. I can't even imagine being underground for an hour. Abi is smart and strong and very likable. Her relationship with Finn is very sweet. ARV-3 is a good read. It's filled with lots of action, danger and a bit of romance. If you love reading books with an apocalypse setting, I highly recommend this one.
ARV-3 is narrated by Erin Moon. She did a good job. A pleasant voice, that captured Abigail wonderfully.

[AudioBook Review]: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
Title: The Raven Boys
Author: The Raven Cycle
Narrator: Will Patton
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: September 18, 2012
Summary: “There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”
It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.
Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.
His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.
But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.
For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.
Thoughts: Loved this book! Now I have read Maggie Stiefvater's other book series, but I didn't have The Raven Cycle on my list. I seen my library had it on audio book, so I thought I'd give it a try. Should have known it was gonna be a good one. Once I started I couldn't stop Blue and the Raven boys are exciting characters. The Raven Boys has a little bit of everything. I loved the mystery & magick aspect to the story. Definitely one of my favorite YA reads this year. I can't wait to jump back into this world
The Raven Boys is narrated by actor, Will Patton. This is the second time I've listened to a audiobook he's narrated. I just love his voice. He embodies the characters so fully.

Summary: After the Affair of the Clockwork Scarab, Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes are eager to help Princess Alix with a new case. Seventeen-year-old Willa Aston is obsessed with spiritual mediums, convinced she is speaking with her mother from beyond the grave. What seems like a case of spiritualist fraud quickly devolves into something far more menacing: someone is trying to make Willa "appear lunatic," using an innocent-looking spiritglass to control her.
The list of clues piles up: an unexpected murder, a gang of pickpockets, and the return of vampires to London. But are these events connected? As Uncle Sherlock would say, "there are no coincidences." It will take all of Mina's wit and Evaline's muscle to keep London's sinister underground at bay.
Thoughts: Set in London 1889 when spiritualism was quite popular with both believers and non-believers. Such an intriguing time. Ms. Stoker & Ms. Holmes are thrown into the thick of it, in the hopes of helping a friend to Princess Alexandra.
Each chapter is either narrated by Holmes or Stoker. I have to say Ms. Stoker is way more likeable than Ms. Holmes. Mina Holmes is quite stuffy and just a bit of a snob. I hope Evaline will rub off on her eventually. If these two lived together they would be The Odd Couple of the Victorian era. The Spiritglass Charade was a captivating page-turner. Full of mystery and intrigue. The last scene of the book was a bit of a shocker, I can't wait to read more.

Series: Stoker & Holmes
Author: Colleen Gleason
Genre: Historical Fiction/ Young Adult
Release Date: September 17, 2013
I received this book from Chronicle Books, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes never meant to get into the family business. But when you’re the sister of Bram and the niece of Sherlock, vampire hunting and mystery solving are in your blood. And when two society girls go missing, there’s no one more qualified to investigate.
Now fierce Evaline and logical Mina must resolve their rivalry, navigate the advances of not just one but three mysterious gentlemen, and solve murder with only one clue: a strange Egyptian scarab. The stakes are high. If Stoker and Holmes don’t unravel why the belles of London society are in such danger, they’ll become the next victims.
Thoughts: Evaline Stoker, the sister of Bram Stoker and Mina Holmes the niece of Sherlock Holmes. What a unique and intriguing idea. This one has been on my list for a while. I loved it. Stoker and Holmes are a bit snippy with each other, but I found that to be so fun. Both highly intelligent. They are so different from each other, but alike too. But neither can see how much they are alike.. or refuse to see it. I absolutely loved the Gardella connection. The Clockwork Scarab set in Victorian London 1889. I found it to be wonderful read. From the characters and plot to the delicious descriptions. If your a fan of Steampunk or Ms. Gleason's Gardella series definitely check this book out.

[AudioBook Review]: Redeemed by P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast
Title: Redeemed
Author: P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast
Narrator: Caitlin Davies
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: October 14, 2014
I received this audio book from Macmillan Audio, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: Zoey Redbird is in trouble. Having released the Seer Stone to Aphrodite, and surrendered herself to the Tulsa Police, she has isolated herself from her friends and mentors, determined to face the punishment she deserves—even if that means her body will reject the change, and begin to die. Only the love of those closest to her can save her from the Darkness in her spirit; but a terrible evil has emerged from the shadows, more powerful than ever…
Neferet has finally made herself known to mortals. Crowning herself a Dark Goddess, she is evil unleashed and is enslaving the citizens of Tulsa. The vampyres of the House of Night have banded with the police, and are gathering every last resource they have, but they know that no single vampyre is strong enough to vanquish her—unless that vampyre has the power to summon the elements as well as the ability to wield Old Magick. Only Zoey is heir to such power…but because of the consequences of using Old Magick, she is unable to help.
Thoughts: This is the 12th and last book in the House of Night series. House of Night series has changed a lot since it first debuted. I really loved the first 4 books, but sadly for me it went down hill. Even though I'm so over the villain Neferet, I thought Redeemed was good read for a last book. I was mostly interested to see how things will end for Zoey and her friends. I was satisfied with the end, I think most fans of the series will be too.
I look forward to see what P.C. & Kristin Cast do next, I just hope it has no connection with the House of Night world.

Summary: The shadows in Kalona's past will finally come to light We will learn about the winged immortal's secret history and discover how he went from being the Goddess's Warrior and Guardian to her enemy and betrayer.
Did Darkness taint Kalona as it did Neferet, or has the powerful immortal always preferred power over honor, and control over faith?
This novella will be crucial to fans understanding of Kalona, before his role in the explosive final installment of the House of Night, REDEEMED coming in October 2014.
Thoughts: This latest House of Night novella tells the history/past of Kalona. I enjoyed this one. I actually like these novellas more than the full length novels. Kalona isn't my favorite character, but he is a character that is surrounded in mystery, it was intriguing to see his past unfold. Definitely don't miss this one, especially if you've been with the series since the beginning.

[AudioBook Review]: City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
Title: City of Heavenly Fire
Author: Cassandra Clare
Narrators: Jason Dohring & Sophie Turner
Series: The Mortal Instruments
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: May 27, 2014
I received this title from Simon & Schuster Audio, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary:
Black for hunting through the night
For death and mourning the color's white
Gold for a bride in her wedding gown
Sebastian Morgenstern is on the move, systematically turning Shadowhunter against Shadowhunter. Bearing the Infernal Cup, he transforms Shadowhunters into creatures out of nightmare, tearing apart families and lovers as the ranks of his Endarkened army swell.
The embattled Shadowhunters withdraw to Idris--but not even the famed demon towers of Alicante can keep Sebastian at bay. And with the Nephilim trapped in Idris, who will guard the world against demons?
When one of the greatest betrayals the Nephilim have ever known is revealed, Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Simon & Alec must flee--even if their journey takes them deep into the demon realms, where no Shadowhunter has set foot, and from which no human has ever returned...
**If you haven't read any of the books in this series, my review could contain spoilers.**
Thoughts: Sebastian Morgenstern (Clary's brother) is using the Infernal Cup to change Shadowhunters in to dark creatures. Clary & Jace along with the rest of the gang aim to fight to the last. They must or all will be lost.
It was an good read. The first few chapters of the book were a bit slow. There seemed to be a lot of waiting around for action and for the clave to make a decision. I enjoyed revisiting Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Simon & Alec one last time. But I got bored with Sebastian real fast. At 725 pages or in my case 17 discs I thought it would never conclude, but in the end I felt it worth it. I thought it was wrapped up very nicely and with a very satisfying ending.
City of Heavenly Fire is narrated by Jason Dorhing (Veronica Mars) and Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones). I'm a little partial to Molly Quinn (who narrated previous audios in this series), but I enjoyed these two as well.

[AudioBook Review]: Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Title: Throne of Glass
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Narrator: Elizabeth Evans
Series: Throne of Glass
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: November 5, 2013
I received this audio book from Lisa Ewinert Consulting, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: Meet Celaena Sardothien. Beautiful. Deadly. Destined for greatness.
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
Thoughts: Master assassin Celaena Sardothien has been serving time in the salt mines. She is rushed in front of the Prince. He offers her freedom with a slight catch. Celaena must agree to take part in a competition to become the royal assassin. If she wins and works as their assassin for 4 years she'll gain her freedom. Something Celaena has never had.
This series wasn't originally on my list to read, but I found the cover very enticing. It turned out to be such an exciting read. I loved the strong, but vulnerable Celaena. Throne of Glass was a fantasy story you won't want to put down. Wonderful world building and even more interesting characters. This is action packed story filled will intrigue, murder, friendship and love.
If you enjoyed Kristin Cashore's Graceling Realm or Maria V. Snyder's Study series, you should definitely try Sarah J. Maas. Throne of Glass is narrated by Elizabeth Evans. For me a narrator can make or break an audio book. But I really enjoyed Ms. Evans voice, she became Celaena completely.

Title: Revealed
Author: P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast
Narrator: Caitlin Davies
Series: House of Night
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: October 15, 2013
I received this book from Macmillan Audio, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: Drastically altered after her fall at the end of Hidden, Neferet is now more dangerous than ever—and her quest for vengeance will wreak havoc on humans, as well as Zoey and her friends. Chaos is loosed in Tulsa and the House of Night is blamed.
Can Zoey stop Neferet in time to keep her anger from escalating to full-on war? Or will someone else have to step in to take the fall?
Now, in the eleventh and penultimate installment of the series, the action is more intense and the stakes even higher as Zoey and her friends battle to protect their school and home from devastating evil—all while balancing romances, precarious friendships and the daily drama of the House of Night's halls.
Thoughts: Enjoyable read! There is a part of me that is glad that this series is nearing its end. Since book one this group of teens have been in a non-stop loop of chaos and danger. The thorn in their side being Neferet. While there have been other dangers to the group, Neferet is the villain in every book. That part of the story has just kind of gotten boring for me. Revealed is good read. Entertaining with a shocking ending. Not only is there a threat of the supernatural kind, but there is also a threat from the humans. Action-filled with interesting happenings between the group. I am excited to see how this series will end.

[AudioBook Review]: Endless Knight by Kresley Cole
Title: Endless Knight
Author: Kresley Cole
Narrated: Emma Galvin
Series: The Arcana Chronicles
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: October 1, 2013
I received this book from Simon & Schuster Audio, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: Shocking Secrets
Evie has fully come into her powers as the Tarot Empress, and Jack was there to see it all. She now knows that the teens who've been reincarnated as the Tarot are in the throes of an epic battle. It's kill or be killed, and the future of mankind hangs in the balance.
Unexpected Allies
With threats lurking around every corner, Evie is forced to trust her new found alliance. Together they must fight not only other Arcana, but also Bagmen zombies, post-apocalyptic storms, and cannibals.
Gut-Wrenching Treachery
When Evie meets Death, things get even more complicated. Though falling for Jack, she's drawn to the dangerous Endless Knight as well. Somehow the Empress and Death share a history, one that Evie can't remember—but Death can't forget.
Thoughts: Evie is the Empress, she has all her powers. Jack witnessed her using her powers and he was horrified. She is scared at where they stand and that he'll walk away. Death is constantly whispering in her mind and with danger at every step Evie finds her world more chaotic than ever before.
Excellent read! I loved book one, Poison Princess - so I was excited to jump right into the sequel. I wasn't disappointment. Death was delicious and very tempting, and even with the new revelation I still really like Jack as well. Endless Knight is a captivating story, dark and dangerous. New tarot cards are introduced. Ms. Cole never fails to pack a punch. Due to some of the scenes I do think that this book moved from YA to Paranormal Romance. Definitely A must read.
Endless Knight is narrated by Emma Galvin. If you have listened to the audio books of the Divergent series, you'll recognize her as the voice of Tris but with a slight southern accent. I found it to be a nice surprise and very much enjoyed her reading.

[Audio Review] - Stormbringers by Philippa Gregory
Title: Stormbringers
Author: Philippa Gregory
Series: Order of Darkness
Genre: Young Adult/Historical Fiction
Release Date: June 4, 2013
I received this audio book from Simon & Schuster Audio, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: Italy, 1453. Luca and Isolde grow more and more attracted to each other as they continue their journey to unravel the mysteries throughout Christendom. But their travels are delayed by the uprising of an intense religious crusade that threatens the balance of the civilized world. Death lingers in the air as war ravages on, but this religious conflict is nothing compared to the arrival of an intense and deadly storm.
Caught in the midst of unimaginable chaos, Luca and Isolde must rely on one another in order to survive.
Thoughts: Set in Italy 1453 as the end of the world grows near. Luca & Isolde with their small group journey on. Charged by the church to investigate the mysteries along with way. Each day that goes by Luca & Isolde's feeling for each other grow strong. Things are put to a halt when they encounter Joahnn and this band of child followers on their way to the Holy Land.
This is book two in the Order of the Darkness series. I didn't read book one, so I went into this story kinda blind. But it turned out to be a very enjoyable read. My favorite thing about this book is Luca and Isolde. Sweet, young love. Stormbringers is an intriguing story, rich in details. For me the only minus to the story was Brother Peter, he was beyond annoying. Philippa Gregory is as ever an excellent storyteller. If you enjoyed her books in the past, you'll probably love this one too.
Stormbringers is narrated by Nicola Barber. I found her pleasant to listen to.

[Review] - Viral Nation by Shaunta Grimes
Title: Viral Nation
Author: Shaunta Grimes
Genre: Young Adult/Dystopian
Release Date: July 2, 2013
I received this book from Penguin Group, in exchange for an honest review.
Summary: After a virus claimed nearly the entire global population, the world changed. The United States splintered into fifty walled cities where the surviving citizens clustered to start over. The Company, which ended the plague by bringing a life-saving vaccine back from the future, controls everything. They ration the scant food and supplies through a lottery system, mandate daily doses of virus suppressant, and even monitor future timelines to stop crimes before they can be committed.
Brilliant but autistic, sixteen-year-old Clover Donovan has always dreamed of studying at the Waverly-Stead Academy. Her brother and caretaker, West, has done everything in his power to make her dream a reality. But Clover’s refusal to part with her beloved service dog denies her entry into the school. Instead, she is drafted into the Time Mariners, a team of Company operatives who travel through time to gather news about the future.
When one of Clover’s missions reveals that West’s life is in danger, the Donovans are shattered. To change West’s fate, they’ll have to take on the mysterious Company. But as its secrets are revealed, they realize that the Company’s rule may not be as benevolent as it seems. In saving her brother, Clover will face a more powerful force than she ever imagined and will team up with a band of fellow misfits and outsiders to incite a revolution that will change their destinies forever.
Thoughts: Clover Donovan is 16 and autistic. Ever since she can remember it's been her dream to attend the Academy. She is accepted and then turned down when they learn she needs her service dog, Mango with her. Instead she becomes a Time Mariner. In one fateful mission she learns her brother, West is in danger. She knows she'll have to go up against some powerful people, but she must save him.
Brilliant storytelling!! Viral Nation is an excellent read. A story of many things, but mostly of time travel, doing the right thing and revolution. I was absolutely enthralled with this story, it's one of the most original and intriguing stories I've read this year. Readers will find themselves rooting for Clover and her friends. She is quite an exceptional character. Shaunta Grimes has created frightening world, but I loved visiting it and can't wait to visit again. A must read for Dystopian fans.

[Review] - Inferno by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Title: Inferno
Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
Series: Chronicles of Nick
Genre: Young Adult
Release Date: April 9, 2013
Summary: The heat is on, and a new threat to humanity has risen…
Nick has his driver’s license and he’s not afraid to use it. But turning sixteen isn’t what he thought it would be. While other boys his age are worried about prom dates and applying for college, Nick is neck deep in enemies out to stop him from living another day. No longer sure if he can trust anyone, his only ally seems to be the one person he’s been told will ultimately kill him.
But life spent serving the undead is anything except ordinary. And those out to get him have summoned an ancient force so powerful even the gods fear it. As Nick learns to command and control the elements, the one he must master in order to combat his latest foe is the one most likely to destroy him. As the old proverb goes, fire knows nothing of mercy, and if Nick is to survive this latest round, he will have to sacrifice a part of himself. However, the best sacrifice is seldom the sanest move. Sometimes it’s the one that leaves your enemies confused, and you even more so.
And sometimes, you have to trust your enemy to save your friends. But what do you do when that enemy is you?
Thoughts: Just turned 16 and has his drivers license in hand. This should be a time of fun and easy freedom with thoughts of girls and prom. But he was born Nick Gautier. He is the son of the Malachai and has a future that is death and destruction. Nick's just learned that is girlfriend has been sent to kill him and his enemies are closing in on him once again. Nick would gladly take some easy fun any day instead of current problems.
Excellent read! This is the 4th installment in the series and by far one of the best. Inferno is fast, intense and the stakes are raised. No spoilers here but I will say to Dark-Hunter fans that the Prologue will get you right in the heart. As ever, I was blown away by the story and especially the ending, I didn't see that coming. I can't wait to get the next book to see how Nick is gonna get out of this one. If you haven't picked this series up, definitely do so.
