The Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris, were the first Paranormal Romance I ever read. In fact it was actually the first time I ever heard the term "Paranormal Romance." When I finished reading the first book Dead Until Dark, I was hooked. I've been addicted to the genre ever since.
This last Sunday was the long awaiting premiere of True Blood, which is based on the Sookie Stackhouse books. By now it's pretty well known that Hollywood usually ruins books when they turn them into movies or TV shows. I stopped getting my hopes up about such things when they turned Blood and Chocolate into movie. I was horrified at how much the ripped apart that book.
I have to admit with True Blood I was a bit hopeful and couldn't wait to see it. But you know it wasn't so bad. I actually really liked it. They did change a few things, but that is to be expected. At first I didn't like who they cast as Sookie & Bill. But after watching it twice now, for me at least they pulled it off. I'm looking forward to watching the next episode. I believe the books are better, the show isn't perfect but I'm still gonna enjoy watching it every week. If you haven't read the books, I highly recommend them. They are great reads.

I don't have HBO and was feeling kind of bummed that I wouldn't get to watch "True Blood", but a lot of the reviews say the same as you--that the show didn't stack up to the books. So I'll stick with the paper version. ... which I haven't even read yet. Although I believe I have books #1, 2, 4, and 5 in my TBR. Yes, I'm missing #3. I think. LOL I may have to refer back to this list! ;)
ReplyDeleteYes I have read a couple of reviews and they plain hated it. Which is fine, but I'm not that extreme. While the books are better, I still liked the episode.
ReplyDelete:)
Well, there are just people out there that can't help but rip things apart and be mean. Even when it's good!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the episode and now I'm looking forward to reading the book when I get it.
I liked it & I am looking forward to the next episode to. I'm still not sure if I like the guy playing Bill yet, but considering that after reading all the books I hate him it does not really matter. I'm curious to see how long they take to solve the case's in the show. Will each book be a season or will they just run for 3-5 episodes? I just have to ask did anyone think the very beginning was funny. I loved the redneck vamp, if someone was to insult me like that I would get a bit testy to. Christine you may be able to buy them from itunes. Blood ties is not going to be released on DVD so I bought the episodes from itunes & they were only 1.99 each.
ReplyDeleteAmy- Yeah I don't get people like that. *shakes head*
ReplyDeleteShannon from what I heard This first season is gonna consist of book one. I'm re-reading Dead Until Dark and the first episode is pretty much what happnes in chapter 1. I can't wait to see the next episode.
Wow Blood Ties isn't coming out on dvd that sucks!!!
That's awesome I think I need to read Dead Until Dark it has been a few years. I emailed Lifetime to ask them when the DVDs would be coming out since the show was canceled. Response was rather quick, probably never, they don't own the rights and the second season got poor ratings so they have no intentions of doing so. It sucks, I have a feeling moonlight is going to be the same way. That dam writer's strike, both shows had great rating until they had to postpone episodes.
ReplyDeleteWell Season 1 of Blood Ties is available at Amazon UK. You would think we'd eventually get it. Thats gonna suck if we don't.
ReplyDeleteI did find Moonlight dvd listed at Amazon, but no release date yet. I think they will eventually release it. Look how long it took Birds of Prey to come out on dvd... it premiered back in 2002. :)
