James Patterson

I never thought I would find myself reading James Patterson. But I came across this book, it's the Manga version of his Young Adult series Maximum Ride. I admit it's the cover that got me, happens everytime. A pretty cover is hard to pass up. ;) But I ended up really enjoying it, and the art was pretty amazing too. Since I enjoyed the manga, I'm gonna give the first book in the series a try: Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. Has anyone else read this series???

Here is the book description for both Novel & Manga:

Fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride, better known as Max, knows what it's like to soar above the world. She and all the members of the "flock"--Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman and Angel--are just like ordinary kids--only they have wings and can fly. It may seem like a dream come true to some, but their lives can morph into a living nightmare at any time...like when Angel, the youngest member of the flock, is kidnapped and taken back to the "School" where she and the others were experimented on by a crew of wack jobs. Her friends brave a journey to blazing hot Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare--this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf "Erasers" in New York City. Whether in the treetops of Central Park or in the bowels of the Manhattan subway system, Max and her adopted family take the ride of their lives. Along the way Max discovers from her old friend and father-figure Jeb--now her betrayed and greatest enemy--that her purpose is save the world--but can she?

  1. I haven't read this series, but I have read a few other James Patterson books and liked them. I have to be in the mood for murder and mayhem to pick up one of his books! He had a serial killer book about a guy in a purple taxi (he was the killer picking up and killing whoever got into his cab) a few years ago (can't think of the name) but it was a good one. Creepy and you didn't really know for sure who-dun-it till the end.

  3. I haven't read any of his murder/mystery books. Probably wouldn't read the Maximum series, if it didn't have a bit of fantasy involved.

I use to be very picky about the genre's I read. I never use to read Historicals at all unless there was a vampire or werewolf involved. Now it's one of my favorite genres. Was never a big Manga fan either, but this past year I got hook on a series called Vampire Knight.

  4. My mom reads the Maximum series! She likes it. That's neat to see you reading something dealing with it even if it is a Manga version!

She actually discovered the first book when we went to a huge scholastics book fair back in November.

  7. I've read the entire series and I loved it! I'm anxiously awaiting the fifth Maximum Ride book, out later this year.

I would also highly recommend his other bird-experiment type books, adult fiction instead of young adult. They were written long before Angel's Experiment, but they have similiar plots. The books are 'When the Wind Blows' and 'The Lake House' *in that order*. They were the first Patterson books I read, introduced to me by my grandmother about 6 years ago, and I read both of them in a little over a day. They are amazing, possibly even (I hate to say this) better than the YA Maximum Ride.

Anyway, that's just my opinion... Hope you enjoy the book anyway! :)

  9. I love James Patterson and the Maximum Ride Series is great :), haven't read the Magna series yet, but looks very good, a sucker for sweet cover art!

You should take a look the When the Wind Blows and Lake House, good story with a little mystery, evil doctors doing ungodly experiments, and a little romance to boot. They're related to, but do not have the same characters as Maximum Ride Series, either the books or the Magna series. (Oops, I see someone has already made that recommendation!)

    Good reading,
    Dot
