[Review] - White Witch, Black Curse

Title: White Witch, Black Curse
Author: Kim Harrison
Series: Rachel Morgan/The Hollows
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Year: 2009

Summary: Some wounds take time to heal... and some scars never fade.

Rachel Morgan, kick-ass witch and bounty hunter, has taken her fair share of hits and has broken lines she swore she would never cross. But when her lover was murdered, it left a deeper wound than Rachel ever imagined, and now she won't rest until his death is solved... avenged. Whatever the cost.

Yet the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and when a new predator moves to the apex of the Inderlander food chain, Rachel's past comes back to haunt her.

Literally.

Thoughts: I first discovered the Rachel Morgan series back in June 2006, and I automatically fell in love with the world. Rachel is a witch and along with her two roommates vampire Ivy and pixie Jenks run their business Vampiric Charms. They bring in the bad guys when no one else can. If you enjoy reading about witches, vampires, werewolves, elves, and pixies, you should give this series a try.

White Witch, Black Curse is book number 7, and for me it didn't disappoint. This series is always action packed with conflict, adventure and sometimes even romance. This time Rachel is in search of the person who killed her lover Kisten.

I know you probably hear this a lot from me but, this is one of my favorite series (I have alot I know, there's just too many to have just one). Rachel is one of my favorite heroines. She's a witch, not perfect by any means. And most days her life is a mess. She doesn't always go about handling her problems the best way. I think that's one of the reason's I like her. Whenever a new book comes out I can't wait to see what she's gotten herself into.

Score: 5 Stars

I remember talking with you about this book a few days ago and I happened to sneak into Borders today (I'm sneaky that way.....always run errands that just happen to be in the same shopping center!)and I knew you had told me there were other books in the series and I drew a complete BLANK....I walked the aisle thinking I would see the cover and know the book but nothing, nada.........I walked out with zilch, didn't buy a single book today! No I don't have a fever either!! I wrote the author and titles down, next time I won't forget!! LOL

  5. Thanks Blanche! That has happened so many times to me in the past. Titles and authors just go right out of my head. LOL! I always bring a list with me now. But I usually end up by stuff that isn't the list.

No books? That rarely happens to me except if the store is Walmart. :)

  6. "urban fantasy" - would that subgenre include "Thieves of Lankhmar" by Fritz Leiber?

  7. Hi Hans, I haven't read that one. But It looked it up on Amazon. Just from the cover and book description. I would say it's closer to Science Fiction/Fantasy than Urban Fantasy. :)

  8. Well, it is sci fi/fantasy, close to Conan the Barbarian, only it is heavily set in cities (Lankhmar is one), so I thought maybe urban fantasy were a subgenre of sci fi/fantasy.

Would Superman and Green Lantern be closer to urban fantasy?

  9. Even though Superman and Green Lantern are in Urban settings, I'm not sure they are considered Urban Fantasy.

It is a Subgenre of SciFi/Fantasy. I mean Urban Fantasy doesn't have their own section at stores. They are in the SciFi Fantasy section.

Here are some Urban Fantasy authors:

    Mark Henry
    Richelle Mead
    Jim Butcher
    Carrie Vaughn
    Kat Richardson
    Mario Acevedo
    Jeaniene Frost
    Keri Arthur
    Kim Harrison
    Kelley Armstrong
    Ilona Andrews
    Rachel Caine
    J.F. Lewis
    Simon R. Green
