The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane

Every once in a while I like to detour into Historical Fiction, especially if the book is about witches or set in Salem, MA. The book below is just that. I just started this one today.

Book Description:

Harvard graduate student Connie Goodwin needs to spend her summer doing research for her doctoral dissertation. But when her mother asks her to handle the sale of Connie's grandmother's abandoned home near Salem, she can't refuse. As she is drawn deeper into the mysteries of the family house, Connie discovers an ancient key secreted within a seventeenth-century Bible. The key contains a yellowing fragment of parchment with a name written upon it: Deliverance Dane. This discovery launches Connie on a quest to find out who this woman was, and to unearth a rare colonial artifact of singular power: a physick book, its pages a secret repository for lost knowledge of herbs and other, stranger things.

As the pieces of Deliverance's harrowing story begin to fall into place, Connie is haunted by visions of the long-ago witch trials, and begins to fear that she is more tied to Salem's dark past then she could have ever imagined.

  2. Hi Anna,
I work at a bookstore in Swampscott which is right next to Salem. We have this book proudly displayed since it's a local author. We actual had the author's neighbor come in and buy 6 copies of the book!! I hope you enjoy it.
    Happy Reading!!

  9. Anna, is this like she time travels back to that time period during the Salem Witch Trials? Would love to hear about it when you're done! I love the way the cover does show like a history of that book in age!

I've never read anything historical fiction with the Salem Witch Trials (I've read little in Historical Fiction, but love it! Just as I love reading historical romances). A favorite of mine is reading historical mystery series, especially set in Regency

  10. The main character doesn't actually time travel. But the story moves back in forth between 1991 and 1681
