Interview/Giveaway with Terry Spear

Give a warm welcome to author, Terry Spear. I love her werewolves, so I'm excited to have her back to visit. This time around she's here celebrating her latest release Seduced by the Wolf.

Hi Terry, Welcome to Anna's Book Blog! I'm glad to have here. To start off can you tell the readers a little about yourself?

Terry: Thanks so much for having me here, Anna! I absolutely love to read. If I run out of reading material, I’m lost. And yes, I write all the time, work full-time as a librarian, teach online writing classes, but still HAVE to get in my reading fix. (And no, contrary to popular opinion, I don’t have time to sit and read books at the library!) I love to tell stories, which is derived from my love of falling into worlds others have created for me to enjoy.

Seduced by the Wolf is the 5th book in your werewolf series and your latest release, can you tell us a little about it?

Terry: Leidolf Wildhaven has been causing trouble since Book 1, Heart of the Wolf. So it’s about time he had a little trouble of his own. Not just the kind he’s dealt with in the first four books of the series…but REAL trouble—in the form of one sexy red wolf who, heaven forbid, doesn’t want him like he wants her. Although with Leidolf’s persuasive ways, she’s having a real hard time sticking to her mission—educating the world about the plight of wolves, choosing to be a loner instead of being with her werewolf kind. You’d think Leidolf has enough on his plate already what with teen troubles, excursions to the zoo, and not in a good way, wayward wolves who won’t mind, and a multitude of other troubles, but they all pale when it comes to attempting to win the heart of werewolf wolf biologist Cassie Roux.

What is your writing day like?

Terry: Busy. I get up around 5:30 to blog, catch up on emails, write a little and go to work. At lunch break, I do the same. After work, the same. On my days off, I garden, write, and catch up on everything I couldn’t do during the days I’m at work. So I stay really busy!
When you’re not writing what kind of books do you like to read?

Terry: I read about everything, but werewolf books. I love time travels and historical romances so read tons of those. I love Sharon Lathan’s Mr. Darcy series. I enjoy reading about wolves! And about true life adventures. I really love to read a lot of different things.

How much research do you put into each book you write? Do you have a process you stick with?

Terry: I write by the seat of the pants, so I don’t plot out my stories. For me, thinking of research as a process is way too much like plotting. I write the characters of the story—the scenes based upon their actions and reactions. And then I’ll research the setting to make sure it fits. Or I’ll get stumped and so I’ll take a break and just read something about wolves, and get an idea. As I’m writing Dreaming of the Wolf, Book 8, the hero asks the heroine if there’s a drive-in theater they can go to. Well, then I had to research and see if there was. Nope. Also, I learned there wasn’t a cemetery there, so had to revise how I wrote the next scene. I loved doing it though. It makes it real for me. Just like the hero didn’t know about these things, neither did I!

What are 3 things that are "must haves" for you when you sit down to write a book?

Terry: Green tea. That’s it. I can write long hand, or at my computer. I can listen to music, or not. Although for one scene, I listened to wolves howling because I was writing a scene about that. And I want to give a special thanks here to a werewolf fan, Diva Donna, who is an official member of the pack, because she actually sent me a CD with howling wolves on it! I also listened to rain falling on a river in a scene to describe it in Seduced by the Wolf.

You have several books under your belt since becoming a published author, what is/ or has been your favorite part of the process.

Terry: Writing the first meeting between the hero and heroine, and the opening scene. And I love trying to come up with a satisfying ending that feels good—feels just right.

If you were a wolf, which breed of wolf would you be?

Terry: A red, because they’re smaller and my family always called me the runt of the litter, so it would feel natural to me to be a red.

Out of all the books in your Werewolf series, do you have a favorite book or character?

Terry: I love them all. My favorite characters are the ones I’m currently working on, because I’m falling in love with them—with their quirks, their good sides and bad—throughout their trials and can’t wait to see them have a happily ever after, too.

What is up Next? Do you see the Werewolf series having an end or do you feel it's an open ended series?

Terry: It’s open-ended. I’ve pitched a couple of new books to my editor, which would give me the opportunity to write one of the Highland brother’s stories, from Heart of the Highland Wolf, and Meara’s story, from To Tempt the Wolf , if they’re accepted.

Thanks so much for having me, Anna! I’ve enjoyed being here with you today!

For anyone who drops by, and if you’ve read any of the series, who would you like to see a story about?

SEDUCED BY THE WOLF
BY TERRY SPEAR – IN STORES AUGUST 2010

His first priority is to protect his pack…
Werewolf pack leader Leidolf Wildhaven has just taken over a demoralized pack. With rogue wolves on the loose causing havoc and the authorities from the zoo suddenly zeroing in on the local wolf population, the last thing he needs in his territory is a do-gooder female, no matter how beautiful and enticing she is…

She’ll do anything to help wolves…
Biologist Cassie Roux has dedicated her life to protecting wolves in the wild. On a desperate mission to help a she-wolf with newborn pups, the last thing Cassie needs right now is a nosy and entirely too attractive werewolf pack leader trying to track her down…

With rogue wolves and hunters threatening at every turn, Cassie and Leidolf may find their attraction the most dangerous force of all…

  2. I hadn't heard Terry's books before, but I love werewolves so it's gone on the list. The synopsis for this one sounds good and since I hate to read out of order, I'll have to start at the beginning.

  5. Ladies this is the best Werewolf Pack to belong too.
And I love these books all of them. I've already read them all. But every interview is new. And I learn a new tidbit about this awesome writer. And if I would pick a character I'd like to see a book written. It would be Sam Silver, the younger brother in Destiny of the Wolf. Being the youngest. He's always had to try harder. So Terry, you must give him a book with the hottest, most awesome Heroine you've ever written. Somebody just like me. LOL!!!

  12. Hi Terry - any time I posted at one of your interviews I've always asked about Meara, so you can guess my answer - I would love to see Meara get a book. She's tough, fiesty, willful - makes you kinda want to see her get her comeuppance but she's been my favorite since I met her. Her hero would have to be one tough dude, armed, with kevlar, might even need some shackles since she tends to roam...annhonATaolDOTcom

  14. Donna, do you mean, Tom Silver? Yes, he truly needs his own story. You'll see a little of him in Wolf Fever in Dec and again in Dreaming of the Wolf where Jake gets the woman of his dreams. Sam is the bartender and he's still making a play for Silva. :)

    Thanks, Kjovus, Vidasha, and Linda!

    Thanks, Crystal. Enjoy the series!

    Hope you enjoy them, Alicia!

    Thanks, Elaing!

Oh, Cyberclipper, I loved your description of the guy Meara would get. Her story is one of the next one's coming up in my "to write" pile. I'm working on that and The Highland Wolf in Paradise. How about a former Navy SEAL for Meara? He was one of the members of Hunter's SEAL team and mating Meara is the farthest thing from his mission! Like you, I figured she needed someone who was up to the challenge. :)

  21. Hi Terry, I love your books!!!
I have read all of them so far and on pins and needles waiting on the next book to come out. I love your interviews. I figure you will get around to writing about all the ones that need books of their own. And I know I will enjoy who ever you write a book about.
