Guest Blog/Giveaway with Sherry D. Ficklin

Today I'm excited to welcome Sherry Ficklin to my blog. She is the author of Foresight- The Gods of Fate, book 1. A book that I absolutely loved. I hope everyone enjoys the post. :)

What I Write When No One Is Looking
By: Sherry D. Ficklin

I love YA books. So, that’s generally what I write. Since summer set in here in Colorado (a month late I might add) I’ve been on writing hiatus to spend some quality time with my kids who are home. The plan is, to get back into finishing up the third installment in The Gods of Fate series in late August when they are all back in class.

But I’m a writer.

Do you have any idea what happens to writers who don’t write?

For starters, I start having really weird, vivid dreams. Seriously. The kind of stuff that would send a normal person into therapy.

I also bake. A lot. This has added significant inches to my waistline this summer.

Did I mention that I get irritable? I zone out, daydream. I also read other people’s books.

I don’t like to read when I write, which is pretty common I think, but when I’m not knee deep in WIP, watch out! Before long my poor husband will have to put in ANOTHER set of shelves just to accommodate the books I’ve picked up in the last two months.

Anyway, last week my hubby came home early from work and caught me on the computer, writing. I’m clicking the close button frantically like an idiot. He says, “What are you doing?” So naturally I wave my hand in front of his face and say in my best Jedi voice, “These are not the droids you’re looking for,” and scamper away.

The sad thing is that I wasn’t even working on book 3. I was working on my dirty little secret novel, a Paranormal Romance.

You heard me.

Whilst I adore YA, I needed a break, something to tinker on when I hit a road block with the WIP. It sort of snowballed in to this amazing story. I didn’t expect to love it. I have no idea what I’m going to do with it. But most importantly, I laugh out loud when I write it.

Not that I don’t love book 3. I do. But every once in a while it’s nice to sneak off and work on something just for the sake of enjoyment. Now was hubby upset that I was writing? Of course not. But it kind of felt good to be breaking the ‘rules’ even if they were just my own rules. That’s okay. I’m allowed to be a bit eccentric. I’m an author.

Thanks for letting me crash the party over here and Happy Reading!

  4. As a writer I so understand what happens when we spend too much time away from creating our stories. If we don't get them down on paper they manifest in dreams, sleeping or awake, and for me a strong craving for chocolate.

    Love your book.
