Guest Blog & Giveaway with Sara Humphreys

Hi Anna! Thank you so much for having me here today. I’m super excited to share the world of the Amoveo with all the paranormal romance readers out there. So folks are probably wondering who or what are they anyway?

The Amoveo are an ancient race of dream-walking, telepathic shape-shifters in search of their one pre-destined soul mate. Their race consists of ten different animal clans Lion, Tiger, Cheetah, Panther, Eagle, Falcon, Fox, Bear, Wolf, and Coyote. Once they find their mate, they age at a considerably slower rate than humans and all of their abilities are amplified.  Oh, and they’re all incredibly hot and sexy…of course.

However, there’s a catch—there’s always a catch, isn’t there?

Even with all of these strengths they are a fragile race. They can only have children with their life mate and if they don’t find that mate by the time they turn thirty, then they lose all of their unique abilities and die a slow death.  Their race has been hunted to the brink of extinction by the Caedo family, the one human family who know about their existence. When one Amoveo is killed, the possibility for offspring is eliminated and their mate ultimately dies as well.

Bummer.

I’ve had several people ask me where I got the idea for the Amoveo and to be honest there’s no one moment, or one inspiration, it was combination of factors.  I’ve always adored books about werewolves and vampires, Lori Handleand’s Nightcreature series and Christine Feehan’s Carpathian series to be more specific.

After reading yet another awesome werewolf tale, I asked myself this question- “What would I want to be or what would I want to be able to do if I could be a supernatural creature?”

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of being able to change shape. However, what I would find most intriguing is that a piece of yourself could be kept secret form most of the world. I think it would be so cool to have something wild and ever present under the surface….just waiting and clamoring to come out.

But what animal would I want to be? I love wolves. They’re loyal, fierce and family oriented. Hmmm. Tigers are pretty freakin’ cool and let’s face it—they’re bad ass. Wait! What about an eagle? I’ve always wanted the ability to fly.

Nuts.

There were just too many cool animals to choose from so I decided to have several different animal clans in the Amoveo. Plus, all the animals are so different and have such diverse strengths, that I figured it could make for some interesting couplings.

Okay. So I knew I would want be some kind of animal clan shape-shifter but that just wasn’t enough. I wanted more.

The ability to walk in the dream realm and control the environment would be awesome but you know what would be better…have the events in the dream later impact the material world. Yes, now that would be cool.

I think telepathy is sexy as hell. How intimate would it be to have the most private of private conversations with your lover in the middle of a crowded room?

Last but not least, true love. That’s the most magical thing of all and I’m a die-hard believer in true love and having a soul-mate.  At the end of the day, no matter how many mind-blowing powers someone has, if they don’t have love then they’ve got nothing.

Over time, my wish list of supernatural abilities evolved and eventually turned into the Amoveo Legend series.   Amoveo is Latin and it means “to shift, or move away from”. When I was trying to find a name for their race, I wanted it rooted in some kind of reality.  Since Latin is the oldest language that’s still spoken (although not by me), I figured it was the best choice so I also made it the formal language of the Amoveo people.

So that’s it. That’s how I came up with my sexy shape-shifter world and I’ve had a blast writing their stories. I hope you’ll check out Unleashed and fall in love with this wild group.

I have a question for all the readers out there:  What if you were like Samantha, the heroine in Unleashed and you found out that you were half Amoveo? What clan would want to be a member of?  I still can’t narrow it down to one but Wolf, Panther, and Tiger are always in my top three. Happy Reading.

  1. Unleashed sounds like a wonderful story. The Amoveo sounds like a very interesting race. I think it would be wonderful to be able to shape-shift, though I would have a hard time deciding what clan. I can narrow it down to 4 and those would be wolf, eagle, tiger, and panther. I think it would be wonderful to have the ability to shape-shift into any of these animal clans for a day or two.

  13. @Lil--Those cheetahs are one of my favorites. The heroine in Untamed (which I'm finishing now) is a member of the Cheetah clan...so I'm leaning in that direction at the moment.

  33. Sara,

First, congratulations on the release of Unleashed and *drooling* what a beautiful cover.

Shifters are my favorite kind of paranormal. That fact there's a piece of someone, something wild and primal, hidden from the world but so close you can touch...crazy exhilarating. And yes, there's the total bad ass component that dials up the sexy.

I look forward to reading Unleashed...and thanks so much for the uber awesome giveaway!

  45. Congrats on the release Sara! I actually had the chance to read/review the book when it came out a while back when it was released as an ebook by diff name/pub. I have to say that I really enjoyed it then and loved the story behind the Amoveo. I can't wait to read this revised version. I think I'd pick panther or wolf but hard choice as each animal has it's own unique features.
