Guest Blog & Giveaway with Selena Blake

Happy Love-Month!

Personally, I think romance is a year round thing but I'm happy that there's at least one month where the world puts a spotlight on love and romance.

Since I write romance, I'm pretty much surrounded in "ooey-gooey-love-stuff" 365 days a year. This year, I get an extra day. I plan to put those extra 24 hours to good use with a romance movie marathon.

Here are a few of my favorite cinematic love stories and what I enjoy about them.

The Princess Bride - does this one really need an explanation? Oh, okay. Amazing characters, a rocky start to the relationship, love that stands the test of time.

Robin Hood - the Kevin Costner version. Reason: the final scene where Robin saves Maid Marian and tells her he'd die for her. *swoon*

Queen of the Damned - because everything works out in the end.

The Proposal - because I love a seeing two people who seem an unlikely couple actually fall in love. And Ryan Reynolds without his clothes on, win-win.

The Mummy - librarian heroine, anyone? Love the adventure. Love the romance. Enough said.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith - I'm an action movie buff. Plus, spies & assassins? Top of my list. Toss in a love story, and two great!

Killers - Similar to the last, but I thought this one was funny and charming. Oh, and need I mention Ashton Kutcher's abs?

Underworld 1 & 2 - I like relationships that overcome great odds. A hybrid vampire/lycan falling in love with a death dealer? Definitely on my list.

Sweet Home Alabama - love triangle. Josh Lucas and Patrick Dempsey - is there any other explanation necessary?

The Italian Job - I kinda just like watching Charlie punch Steve. But the love story is slow and sweet too.

Lord of the Rings - epic love story. Okay, so it's an epic adventure, but Aragorn and Arwen end up together in the end and that's what matters. Right?

How about you? Are any of your favorites on my list?

  1. Please give me a chance to win!!!

Robin Hood is a great movie! Who doesn't love a good looking man with tights or in a kilt. lol

I named my daughter Tera after Gone with the Wind, however, I spelled it a little different...she jokes about me naming her after a Plantation...but Rhett Butler did it for me...

    Thanks for the entry. Penny

  2. Great choices--most of them I've seen. :)

The Proposal is a must; very funny, and a naked Ryan is always great!

Sweet Home Alabama is another good one (though not found of Patrick...*Ducks*).

I'd also add The Notebok to the list (it's a must have for me!) and perhaps P.S. I Love You (though I get mad due to the fact that the hottest guy dies before scene one! Still, listening to his voice...Ahh, pure pleasure!).

There are so many others if I stopped to think about it.. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a love story!

  3. I like quite a few on your list, but my 2 favs are The Proposal, funny and Ryan is hot! The Mummy, just love it. Thanks for the giveway!

  9. Great list. I love the Princess Bride. I also enjoy Pride & Prejudice. I recently saw Beastly and really enjoyed that retelling of Beauty and the Beast (which is another of my favorites). There is something about a heroine willing and able to look beyond the surface to find the heart within the hero-regardless of what he looks like-that just makes that tale spectacularly romantic.

    Thanks for the giveaway.
