Top Ten Pet Peeves
In regards to books and writing, right?
Don’t get me started on personal ones!

1. Undeveloped Characters-
Who wants to read about a character you don’t “get” because his or her description is so vague? The writer has a job to do and it is to provide the reader with a clear understanding of who the character is. Falling short of that is a critical error.

2. The lack of a physical description-
Occasionally, you come across a book that completely skips the physical description of a character and I hate that. I don’t want to make that up in my mind.

3. Use of words that a reader can’t possibly recognize-
I hate when a writer abuses a thesaurus. E-readers have helped since the definitions of words may be found in the dictionary app, but who wants to stop reading to look up a word they don’t know?

4. Redundant Phrases-
I hate a when a writer repeats the same phrase.

5. Series that should end already-
If a little is good, a lot isn’t always better. A writer can do an injustice to a series by keeping it going on and on and on and on..

6. Grammatical Errors-
I’m an Indie author, so I realize that I fall into these category. No matter how many times I read my work, I’ll find errors every time. (Ouch. I just slapped my own hand.)

7. Giveaways-
Giveaways? No, I don’t mean freebies. I mean giving pivotal information to the reader without them having to work for it or giving too many hints and the story becomes very predictable. This is called “Showing all of your cards.”

8. Unhappy Endings-
I know lots of readers get peeved by Happily Ever After, but I disagree. I read because I want to feel good when I’m finished. I hope the book was so good that I want to read it again. If I know it has an unhappy ending, you can forget me wanting to read it again. I want to experience what I refer to as “Readers Regret.” This means I want to go back in time and restart the book because I’m so sad that I’m at the end.

9. Whiney Characters-
I don’t like them in real life either.

10. Easy Love-
Instant attraction is awesome, but I hate the whole meet and fall in love instantaneously thing.

By Georgia Cates | website
Releasing: May 31, 2012

With the mystery of Chansey Leclaire and Curry Brennan’s connection solved, they are free to explore their new found love for one another. Or so they thought...

When Marsala uses a witch and black magic to discover Curry’s whereabouts, he and Chansey are left with no choice. The newly engaged couple is forced to relocate away from their families at the new compound in Savannah, which causes some major changes in the plans for their upcoming wedding.

Relocating to Savannah might have saved Curry and Chansey from being discovered by Marsala, but it doesn’t stop her attempts to reach Curry or her efforts to harm Chansey through the use of black magic. As Marsala closes in, Curry faces the decision he never wanted to make. Will he keep Chansey human or condemn her to eternity as the thing he hates most?

As Curry waits for his hand to be forced, a newly turned vampire arrives at the Savannah compound in need of help. Not only is she a fledgling in transition, she brings reports of escaping from a vampire cult still in possession of her sister, a human. Any attempt to save the captive human from a cult of vampires puts everyone in jeopardy. Can they risk entering a large cult to save one human being? And is so, how could they possibly do it successfully? Love will grow. New mysteries will arise. A battle will ensue. A Blood Jewel will be found.

  2. I agree with all of your pet peeves! I'm an indie author too, but with regards to grammer errors, I have an editor that I work closely with (even on some of my guest blogs) because I always want the stuff I put out out there to be the best it can be, and let's face it, our eyes become weary after the 2nd or 3rd read/edit through our own books and we really do need the outside help. And I'm aslo guilty of using my thesaurus, but mostly when I'm trying to avoid "repeat" words that are in sentences or paragraphs close by. Best of luck to you, Georgia, and I'll certainly check out your book, perhaps starting with the first one in the series since I don't like to read books out of sequence. :-)

  3. EXACTLY! All of your answers are ones I would have given. Instant love is one of my major ones. As if they would instantly know within the first five pages of a book that they are destined to be together. Puh-lease!
