[AudioBook Review]: A Good Marriage by Stephen King

Title: A Good Marriage
Author: Stephen King
Narrator: Jessica Hecht
Genre: Horror/Thriller
Release Date: September 30, 2014

I received this book from Simon & Schuster Audio, in exchange for an honest review.

Summary:  What happens when, on a perfectly ordinary evening, all the things you believed in and took for granted are turned upside-down?

When her husband of more than twenty years is away on one of his business trips, Darcy Anderson looks for batteries in the garage. Her toe knocks up against a box under a worktable and she discovers the stranger inside her husband.  It's a horrifying discovery, rendered with bristling intensity, and it definitively ends a good marriage.

Thoughts: Bill & Darcy Anderson has had a very good marriage for 20 years. Until the day Bill leaves on a trip, and Darcy find something disturbing and so unbelievable. Her world is rocked to the core.

This is the first short story I have read of Stephen King's.  I did enjoy the story, but I had a really hard time listening to the narrator.  I'm use to reading stories that feature strong women, but sadly Darcy comes off weak and naive. But on the other hand, I did really feel bad for her. It would be shocking for anyone to find out a dark secret when you think you know a person.  A Good Marriage  is a suspenseful read. Edge of your seat, intense.

Television & movie actress, Jessica Hecht narrates A Good Marriage.

A Good Marriage can also be found in Stephen King's Anthology Full Dark, No Stars. It's also soon to be a major motion picture staring Joan Allen & Anthony Lapaglia. You can check out the trailer here.

  1. Have you read Stephen King's The Mist? That and World War Z are the two scariest things I've managed to read - but the premise here sounds pretty scary.

    1. Sadly I haven't read either of those books, but I have seen both of the movies. I loved King's sequel The Shining, Doctor Sleep. Freaky stuff. :)
