Dragonhaven by: Robin McKinley
Book Description: Jake Mendoza lives at the Makepeace Institute of Integrated Dragon Studies in Smokehill National Park. Smokehill is home to about two hundred of the few remaining draco australiensis, which is extinct in the wild. Keeping a preserve for dragons is controversial: detractors say dragons are extremely dangerous and unjustifiably expensive to keep and should be destroyed. Environmentalists and friends say there are no records of them eating humans and they are a unique example of specialist evolution and must be protected. But they are up to eighty feet long and breathe fire.

On his first overnight solo trek, Jake finds a dragon--a dragon dying next to the human she killed. Jake realizes this news could destroy Smokehill-- even though the dead man is clearly a poacher who had attacked the dragon first, that fact will be lost in the outcry against dragons.

But then Jake is struck by something more urgent--he sees that the dragon has just given birth, and one of the babies is still alive. What he decides to do will determine not only their futures, but the future of Smokehill itself.

Confessions Of A Little Black Gown by: Elizabeth Boyle
Book Description: Thalia Langley spied him in the shadows and in an instant, knew the man before her was no pious saint. He might claim to be the Duke of Hollindrake’s unassuming country cousin, Milo Ryder, but no man that handsome, so arresting could be anything but... well, he simply must be an unrepentant rogue. His cat-like grace and power leaves Tally shivering in her slippers at the notion of all the wicked, forbidden things he might be capable of doing . . . to her, or the secrets he could uncover.

Indeed, Lord Larken is no bumbling vicar, but a master spy there in His Majesty’s service to find—and murder—a notorious pirate freed in a daring prison escape. Devoted to the Crown, Larken’s not about to let an interfering (and not entirely innocent) Mayfair miss disrupt his ruthless plans. He cannot be tempted . . . not even by the little black gown she dons to tantalize him . . . a dress revealing enough to lead even Larken astray.

  6. Wow! Great haul Anna. I've only read one novel out of your new stack and that was Julia Quinn's 'On The Way To The Wedding'. I thought the ending was really cute and a great way to wrap up the Bridgerton Series.

    Have a great Weekend!

    Happy Reading,

  13. Nice package Anna! Will all be going to the top of the TBR? NIGHT'S ROSE and CONFESSIONS OF A LITTLE BLACK GOWN and ROYAL BLOOD are all on my wishlist to get.

I love Julia Quinn! Thinking of hers is making me want to read hers again!
I never read Robin McKinley but I have heard many speaking about SUNSHINE so I'm looking forward to your review on it.

I'm actually reading PRIDE & PREJUDICE! I haven't read it since HS and wanted to re-read before I dig into more of these sequels!

  15. Great haul, Anna!

I know Amy loved Night's Rose, so I'll be looking forward to your impressions.

I loved McKinely's Sunshine. I thought the middle dragged a bit, but the beginning and ending are great! You're going to want cinnamon buns when you read it. Or you'll be sick of them. One or the other. LOL

I almost bought the Elizabeth Boyle novel twice merely on the merits of the gorgeous cover. Which says a lot since I don't usually buy historical romances on a whim. They have to come highly recommended first. Maybe you'll recommend this one to me and then I'll have the excuse to finally buy it! ;o)

  16. Thanks, Caffey & Mishel.

You know Christine, I did the same thing. I saw Boyle's book twice at the store, before I actually picked it up. I haven't read her yet, but it looks like it'll be good.

I loved Sunshine when I read it back in 2006. One of my favorites. I was hoping for a while there'd be another book based on the characters but the author has no plans to write it.

  17. I liked Sunshine a lot but I felt like the author should have turned it into a series.

  18. Don't you just love weeks like that? :-D Of those three i've read On the Way to the Wedding, Sunshine and Lady Whistledon, all for very different reasons. I have Turn Coat on order, can't wait to read it, I've heard it's one of Butcher's best yet.

  19. I only know of one of those books, Night's Rose.

Dragonhaven sounds interesting though. I'll see what you think when you get around to reading it.

  20. When you read Sunshine will you let me know if you like it. I've yet to decide if I would read it.
