Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Bookish Confessions

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each Tuesday features a different topic and you post your top ten list related to the topic.

This weeks topic is Top Ten Bookish Confessions.

 1. I've only been to two author signings. The signings I've been to were for Tate Hallaway & Kendare Blake. I live in a small town in Northern Minnesota. Mostly when authors do visit it's to Minneapolis. I don't drive, so I don't get down there often.

2. I'm a picky book shopper.  When picking up a book to buy I make sure there are no nicks, rips,  cuts or scratchings anywhere on the book. I've gotten a few weird looks for this habit.

3. When deciding to read a book the point of view doesn't even figure into it. So, I don't get readers who refuse to read books that are in the first person POV.  Do they realize how many good books they are missing out on!?!

4. I use to hate reading. In school I was a pretty slow reader, so reading was my least favorite
thing to do. It wasn't until Harry Potter came along when I started to really love it.

5.  Ear dogging your book pages at anytime should be against the law. I'm a religious user of bookmarks and I have quite a collection.

These are author bookmarks that I use. I have a bunch more in my scrapbook.

These are bookmarks I've either purchase or they were gifts. I have a few more of these too...somewhere. :)

6. I've read the 50 Shades trilogy and I enjoyed it, but I don't think it's literary perfection either.

7.  Across the Universe, Divergent & Wither... These are three books/series a lot of readers love. But I tried reading all three and just couldn't get into them. Not every dystopian book works for me.

8. I'm still mourning the death of Borders.

9. I'm very picky with the books I keep on my shelves. While I have quite a few shelves, my space is limited so I only keep my favorites. The rest get sent to other bloggers, the library or I sell them at Half-Price Books.

10. When it comes to keeper books I'm a paperback girl all the way. I have a very small collection of hardcovers and the reason they made it on to my shelves is because they are either rare books or they are signed by an author.

  2. I love paperback too! I'd rather have a paperback than a hardback any day. I hate dust jackets. This might be why.

I'm still mourning Border's too. I don't have a bookstore anywhere near me now. So sad. This is why I love my Kindle.

    1. We don't have a real bookstore in town either. Just Walmart and they don't count. :)

  3. I love your bookmark collection! I have quite a collection myself, but they're mostly library bookmarks. Pretty nice all the same, but not nearly as colourful.

  4. SEE!!! I knew we were long lost sisters!
Look at that swag of bookmark goodness!
I see a Peeta one that I am drooling over. The only one that doesn't fit me is number nine. I have to run out of room on my shelves before I purge. LOL

  6. I needed reading help when I was in grade school. It wasn't untill Jurassic Park that the real love affair began. Great post Anna, love your bookmark collection. Oh and I've never attended a book signing :-)

    1. I've never read Jurassic Park, but loved the movie. But I imagine the book was a lot better. :)

  7. The only book signing I've been to was Meyer's (don't judge--and by the way, it was for her adult book, The Host, not for Twilight). Living in Utah, not many opportunities for book signings (by authors I read, at least). Never been to any book confrences either.

I think Harry started many of us to reading--or at least brought back the magic of it. I dont' care how old I get, how old the series gets, I'll always be a devoted HP fan. Always. :)

I have bookmarks everywhere, too (some from elementary still, wow!), but the funny thing is I usually only use the same four or five. No particular reason, I just grab what's close and head off to read. :)

Ah, it's nice to see that I'm not alone! If it wasn't for the internet, I think I'd go crazy being the only "crazy" book lover in the area! :D

    Enjoy!

  8. It was the Twilight series that got me into reading. It used to be 1-2 books a year. I still miss Borders too!! I also don't care if a book is in the first person POV. Love your bookmark collection :-)

  11. I'm hoping to meet Kendare Blake someday :)

Your bookmark collection is amazing! I love collecting bookmarks. I have a lot of them... but for some reason I only use those magazine subscription contact forms and receipts as bookmarks.

I don't think it has really hit me that Borders is truly gone :(

  13. There are a few of these that describe me perfectly.

#2 I am also a picky book shopper. I once had a book delivered to Borders and asked them if I could exchange it for a different one because the spine was messed up. The worst thing in the world is when I order a book online because it's not at my local B&N and it arrives with damage because I can't exchange it if the store doesn't have it. I have also gotten weird looks when picking up all three or four copies of a book to see which one survived shipping the best.

#4 I am also a slow reader. I wish I could average a book a day without spending the entire day reading. It would keep my TBR pile in check. I also had some comprehension problems in middle/high school, especially with older titles, so I didn't enjoy reading. One summer, my mom made me and my brother each pick out a book we HAD to read before school started and I picked HP#1. The rest is history.

#5 I am also a bookmark user. But it's not just dog-earring pages that gets me. I will not crack the spine on a book if I bought/received it new. My girlfriend and I share books, but she refuses to read my mass markets because it's too hard for her not to crease the spines, so she will wait until we can get them from the library.

#8 I am also still mourning Borders, and the worst part is that I het to drive by my old Borders every day b/c it's right across from where I work. It's still empty and the sign is still up. :(

It's great to know that some of my neurotic tendancies with books are shared with other readers. :)

    1. Oh that must really suck having to drive by the old Borders building every day. I've been back to the strip mall where my Borders was... the building is still empty. I was hoping maybe a Books-A-Million would move in, but no such luck.

  14. There' a Books-a-Million here in Spring Hill. It's a good store, but it's not borders. The people that work there are very friendly...unlike any Barnes and Noble store I've ever been in. No one in them stores seems to be friendly. I miss Borders also :(

    1. Sadly I've never been to Books-A-Million because there are none in Minnesota at least that I know of. Maybe one day. :)
