[Review] - Finders Keepers

Title: Finders Keepers
Author: Linnea Sinclair
Genre: Futuristic Romance
Year: 2005

Summary: Independent trader Trilby Elliot is making some not-quite-legal modifications to her starfreighter, when an unexpected visitor falls out of space. Literally. He's crashed onto the uninhabited planet of Avanar in a crippled 'Sko fighter-the last place you'd expect to find a Zafharin military officer because the 'Sko and the Zafharin have been at war as long as Trilby can remember.

Rhis Vanur is your typically arrogant Zafharin. But to Trilby's surprise, he doesn't look down on her or her slapdash ship. Still, Trilby's learned the hard way that even though she found Rhis, she can't keep him. She's just a low-budget jump jockey as far as men like him are concerned. She's not falling for his offer to help...until Port Rumor reports her best friend missing and Trilby learns that the 'Sko are hunting both her and Rhis. Now they're in it together for better, for worse-or till death blasts them to oblivion....

Thoughts: I really enjoyed this one, more than I thought I would. If you like
Science Fiction with a splash of romance you'll like this book.

Trilby is on a deserted planet, making repairs to her ship when Rhis pretty much falls into her lap. Although she has reason to be, Trilby is a bit crabby for a good chunky of the book. At times her attitude was a bit annoying, but I loved her character anyway. Both Rhis and Trilby's characters make for a wonderful story.

This was my first time reading anything by Linnea Sinclair, it was a nice change from vampires and werewolves (not that I'm giving up on them anytime soon.) but, I am looking forward to reading her other books. Finders Keepers as far as I can tell is a stand-alone novel.

Score: 4 Stars

  1. I've read Games of Command by her and I really liked it. I have Gabriel's Ghost (first in a series) waiting in TBR-pile.

  6. Hi Anna! I saw I missed alot of fun here! Trying to get better so I can be on more. But reading helps lots! I wondered about this authors books and the related ones. I saw some were re-released in like a similar theme cover so I assume they all go together? So I'm going to check that out. You did a fab read. Makes me want to read it NOW!

  7. Hi Caffey...

As far as I can tell Finders Keepers is a stand alone book. Then rest of the books are part of series called. Dock Five Universe.

    :)

  8. I've never enjoyed Science Fiction, but then I've never tried reading a book that was both Science Fiction and Romance. Thanks for the review.

  9. Hi Anna!

I've been looking at this book and wondering if it would be good, so glad to hear that it was!

I've read other scifi romance and can I really enjoy them.

I've never read anything by this author before, so new author as well.

    Thanks for a great review!

  10. I have loved the books I have read so far by Linnea Sinclair. The hero in Games of Command is my all time favorite hero of ANY romance I have ever read. The Dock 5 series that she has (and should be read in order) is Gabriel's Ghost, Shades of Dark (same hero/heroine from GG), and the newest is Hope's Folly.
As for the covers, they've all been redesigned to be similar for the author, not for a series. Note: if you can find the original cover of Games of Command, the cat is Daq (who just passed last month) and is who the "furzel" Tank in the book is based off.

  11. Great review Anna. I have loved Linnea's stories since before she was published by the mainstream. I would have a hard time choosing which one I like the best. I'd like to keep all of her characters for my best friends. The things that I really like are that her men are sweethearts, and her women are smart with senses of humor. One would have to be a real crab to make it through one of her books without breaking a grin. :-)

  12. Thanks for reviewing FINDERS KEEPERS, and for experimenting with an SFR author new to you. Imho, it's a great place to start for romance readers new to Linnea Sinclair.

What I like about her stories is that they include a lot of action adventure in addition to the SF and romance elements (if you're a fan of Suzanne Brockmann, chances are you'll enjoy Sinclair's work).

It helps to read the Dock Five books in order. *shameless plug alert* I loved, *loved* her latest one, HOPE'S FOLLY. Philip Guthrie is a hero full of awesomesauce.

  13. Thanks Frances!

    Hi Heather...

I am really enjoying SFR. I think the first book I read in that genre is Aguirre's Grimspace.

I love Finders Keepers, so I'm looking forward to read the other books. I'm stickler for reading order.

I have heard of Suzanne Brockmann, but haven't read any of her stuff.

  14. I agree, GRIMSPACE is a lot of fun, too. You might also enjoy Jess Granger's forthcoming book BEYOND THE RAIN (Berkely, August)

If you want more after that, I recommend checking out Catherine Asaro's SUNRISE ALLEY and its sequel ALPHA. Asaro mixes in slightly more hard SF than Sinclair but still very romantic. Especially ALPHA--blew me away.

Brockmann writes military/suspense/action adventure romance--not SFR but mainly my point was Sinclair's work has many of the same elements.
