Coming In June...

Celebrating My 2 Year Blog Anniversary

In June of 2007 I started this blog. I first joined because I was dealing with some issues with the MySpace blog. So, blogger was originally a back up to post my book reviews. Then in 2008 this officially became my main blog. Blogger as a site had more to offer than my old one. I'm glad I made the move too, I've met some wonderful friends through blogging here. Plus I've learned a great deal about reviewing.

So to celebrate my 2 years with this blog I will be holding 4 contests in June. The contests will start on Monday and I will pick the winners on Saturday. I will be giving all sorts of stuff away...Signed books, author goodies, trade paperbacks, tshirts, books and more books.

Now I know some of you will be wondering whose eligible. The first contest will be open to everyone since all the items are ones I've gotten from Authors. But all the remaining contests will only be open to the U.S. & Canada.

Contest Schedule:Week #1- June 1st to 6th
Week #2- June 8th to 13th
Week #3- June 15th to 20th
Week #4- June 22nd to 27th

I will kick the contests off starting June 1st, so stop on by and check out
the prizes I have lined up. :)

Whatcha Reading???

I saw this post over at Literary Escapism and thought I'd give it a whirl. :)

What books did you read last week and did you enjoy them?
Sea Lord- Virginia Kantra ***This was a great ending the the trilogy

The Madness of Ian MacKenzie- Jennifer Ashley ***This was the first time I read Jennifer Ashley and I quite liked it. I can't wait to get my hands on Mac's book.

Devil in a Kilt- Sue-Ellen Welfonder *** This book was recommended to me and I really enjoyed it. I miss Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series, so if anyone has some good Highlander recs, I'm all ears.

The Awakening- Kelley Armstrong *** Second book in the authors YA series. It's not as good as her Women of the Otherworld series, but still enjoyable.

Second Skin- Caitlin Kittredge *** Love this series. While it was a good read, I was a bit disappointed in it compared to the first two books.

The Vikings Forbidden Love-Slave- Michelle Willingham ***This book is from the Harlequin Undone line and it was a fun quick read.

Turn Coat- Jim Butcher ***Another good installment in this series. Although there were a few events that happened, that I didn't care for at all. Poor Harry!

Inferno- Vivi Anna ***A sexy Futuristic Romance. It's the sequel to a book called Hell Kat. I wish there were more books coming about these characters.

What are you currently reading?
Ashes to Midnight by Lara Adrian - Andreas Reichen's story
The Mage by Jean Johnson - Last book in the Sons of Destiny series

What will you read next?
Not sure yet, but it's a gonna be a toss up between Richelle Mead's Succubus Heat, Christine Feehan's Magic in the Wind or Sylvia Day's Ask For It

Have you bought/borrowed/acquired any books this week?
A Hint of Wicked- Jennifer Haymore
Hunter's Edge- Shiloh Walker
A Grand Sophy- Georgette Heyer

Fill in the blank: If you liked (insert book title or series), you will probably like (fill in).
I could say a lot for this one, cause there are so many good authors out there. But if you liked Lora Leigh's Breed series you'll probably like Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling series. Both deal with shifters and possessive males.

[Review] - Leticia's Lovers

Title: Leticia's Lovers
Author: Shelley Munro
Series: Middlemarch Mates
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Year: 2009

I received this book for review from the author.

Summary and Blurb: Lion shifter Leticia Huntingdon has FIV, the feline version of AIDS. For months she’s been in remission, treated by Gavin Finley, the Middlemarch feline doctor. Now the disease has returned. Her feelings for Gavin can’t go anywhere because of the FIV, so it shouldn’t hurt when Gavin turns to Charlie, the new male cop.

Gavin can’t believe how good sex is with Charlie, can’t believe he’s found a mate. The loving is amazing and hot, but Gavin can’t forget Leticia. He wants her in his life. He wants Charlie too. Confusion and jealousy create torrid undercurrents for the trio.

Charlie McKenzie falls for Gavin quickly and can’t understand why he’s attracted to Leticia. A nightmare changes everything, drawing the three together and bringing new possibilities. A ménage a trois. Raw need and passion brings them closer. If only the disease threatening Leticia’s life didn’t loom on the horizon…

Thoughts: This is the seventh and latest book in the Middlemarch Mates series. Leticia's Lovers is an emotionally driven story about a female feline shifter. She has FIV which is the feline version of AIDS, so she can't truly mate with another feline. This was my first time reading a book from this series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Leticia's story is full heartache, and triumph. The dynamic of the three mates was interesting and very steamy.

Heroes of Stone

Back in December I blogged about an ebook called Stone and Sea, which I thought was pretty good novella. I just found out it's part of series. Below is the reading order. I hate reading books out of order, but I'm excited to find out there are more books.

Book Description:

Gargoyle Damien St. Pierre has to find an ancient artifact needed by his people. When he meets earth witch Katie Calhoun, he can't keep his hands off her. Because of the problems his people are having, Damien is afraid to attempt the conversion necessary to make her his mate. But Katie is determined to help him in his quest and to become the gargoyle of his dreams. Can her faith overcome his fear? Will the magic of love succeed in the mating of stone and earth?

Book Description:

Sent to Atlantic City to retrieve an ancient artifact vital to the future of his clan, gargoyle Remy Rocher meets sexy selkie Marina Bell and ends up getting shot for his efforts. Now he has to find the chalice and keep Marina and himself alive — all while dealing with the hottest sex of his life and emotions that scare him more than evil wizards or mobsters with guns.

Book Description:

When half-dragon Dana Logan meets gargoyle Beau Dumont at her friend's wedding, something clicks between them. Halfway through the most passion-filled night of their lives, his phone rings and he rushes home to Montreal.
Several months later, they're in England to catch a ring of antiques smugglers but the two can barely keep their hands off each other long enough to find the thieves. The sex between them is explosive and they're falling in love as well. Between battling the bad guys and fighting their feelings for each other, the two may just set London on fire.

[Review] - Magic Strikes

My review of Magic Strikes was originally post on May 3rd at Babbling About Books & More

Title: Magic Strikes
Author: Ilona Andrews
Series: Kate Daniels
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Year: 2009

Summary: Drafted into working for the Order of Merciful Aid, mercenary Kate Daniels has more paranormal problems than she knows what to do with these days. And in Atlanta, where magic comes and goes like the tide, that's saying a lot.

But when Kate's werewolf friend Derek is discovered nearly dead, she must confront her greatest challenge yet. As her investigation leads her to the Midnight Games - an invitation only, no holds barred, ultimate preternatural fighting tournament - she and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, uncover a dark plot that may forever alter the face of Atlanta's shapeshifting community...

Thoughts: I have mentioned this before at my blog, but it took me till the second book, Magic Burns to really get into this series. I am so glad I stuck with it cause this new book I just loved. It's fast paced and full of action and the best part steam scenes between the two leads Kate & Curran. These two captivated me from the being of the series, they are one of the reason's stuck with the series. I had to see where the author who take these two. Now I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. If you haven't read this series yet, I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.

Favorite Lines/Quotes:
Andrea (repeating what was said between Curran & Jim): "Oh he got a special chewing-out after everyone else was dismissed. It was a very quiet and angry conversation, and I didn't hear most of it. I heard the end though--he got three months of Keep building. Also , when he opened the door to leave, Curran told him very casually that if Jim wanted to pick fights with his future mate, he was welcome to do so, but he should keep in mind that Curran wouldn't come and rescue him when you beat his ass. You should've seen Jim's face."
Kate: "His what?"
Andrea: "His mate. M-A-T-E."

[Review] - The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie

Title: The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie
Author: Jennifer Ashley
Series: Highland Pleasures
Genre: Historical Romance
Year: 2009

Summary: The year is 1881. Meet the Mackenzie family--rich, powerful, dangerous, eccentric. A lady couldn't be seen with them without ruin. Rumors surround them--of tragic violence, of their mistresses, of their dark appetites, of scandals that set England and Scotland abuzz.

The youngest brother, Ian, known as the Mad Mackenzie, spent most of his young life in an asylum, and everyone agrees he is decidedly odd. He's also hard and handsome and has a penchant for Ming pottery and beautiful women.

Beth Ackerley, widow, has recently come into a fortune. She has decided that she wants no more drama in her life. She was raised in drama--an alcoholic father who drove them into the workhouse, a frail mother she had to nurse until her death, a fussy old lady she became constant companion to. No, she wants to take her money and find peace, to travel, to learn art, to sit back and fondly remember her brief but happy marriage to her late husband.

And then Ian Mackenzie decides he wants her.

Thoughts: I hadn't planned to pick this one up, but since it was highly recommended by KristieJ and AmyC, I thought I'd give it a try. It was an enjoyable read. I didn't think much of the heroine Beth, she didn't really stand out for me. But Ian and the rest of the Mackenzie brothers were very intriguing and boy do they have some issues. Lucky for us each of the Mackenzie brothers will be getting their own book.

Bad to the Bone - Out Today!

The long await sequel to last years Wicked Game is out today!
You can read my review of Bad to the Bone H E R E.

Book Description:

If you’re just joining us, welcome to radio station WVMP, "The Lifeblood of Rock ’n’ Roll." Con-artist-turned-station-owner Ciara Griffin manages an on-air staff of off-the-wall DJs—including her new boyfriend Shane McAllister—who really sink their teeth into the music of their ‘Life Time" (the era in which they became vampires). It’s Ciara’s job to keep the undead rocking, the ratings rolling, and the fan base alive—without missing a beat.

For Halloween, WVMP is throwing a bash sure to raise the dead. They’ve got cool tunes, hot costumes, killer cocktails—what could go wrong? Well, for starters, a religious firebrand ranting against the evils of the occult preempts the station’s midnight broadcast. Then, when Ciara tracks down the illegal transmission, the broadcast tower is guarded by what appears to be…a canine vampire? And behind it all is a group of self-righteous radicals who think vampires suck (and are willing to stake their lives on it).

Now Ciara must protect the station while struggling with her own murky relationship issues, her best friend’s unlikely romance with a fledgling vampire, and the nature of her mysterious anti-holy powers. To make it to New Year’s in one piece, she’ll need to learn a few new tricks.…

[Review] - Dirty by Megan Hart

Title: Dirty
Author: Megan Hart
Genre: Erotic Romance
Year: 2007

Summary: This is what happened...

I met him at the candy store.

He turned and smiled at me and I was surprised enough to smile back. This was not a children's candy store, mind you--this was the kind of place you went to buy expensive imported chocolate truffles for your boss's wife because you felt guilty for having sex with him when you were both at a conference in Milwaukee.

Hypothetically speaking, of course.

I've been hit on plenty of times, mostly by men with little finesse who thought what was between their legs made up for what they lacked between their ears. Sometimes I went home with them anyway, just because it felt good to want and be wanted, even if it was mostly fake.

The problem with wanting is that it's like pouring water into a vase full of stones. It fills you up before you know it, leaving no room for anything else. I don't apologize for who I am or what I've done in--or out--of bed.

I have my job, my house and my life, and for a long time I haven't wanted anything else.

Until Dan. Until now.

Thoughts: Dirty was a book I've been wanting to read ever since I seen it featured in RT Magazine, it's just taken me a while to get around to it.

It took me a while to like the lead, Elle. At times she was frustrating, and the girl definitely has issues. Elle has a bit of a dark past, which really explains why she acts the way she does. Dan on the other hand is at first mysterious, but he's just a really sweet guy and I liked him right away. I did think he was almost too perfect. Although the more I read the more I found myself rooting for him.

Elle and Dan's story is steamy, sexy and at times very dark and heart wrenching. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys Erotic Romance. Some might think that since this is an Erotic story its all sex. But that is really so far from the truth. It has a deep and emotional back story, that might surprise some readers.

[Series Spotlight] - Children of the Goddess

Children of the Goddess is a Paranormal Romance series by: R.G. Alexander. I first came across this series when Regina in the Sun was released. I ended up buying the ebook based on the cover art alone and I wasn't disappointed. It turned out to be a very good story. All three covers are by Anne Cain.

Book Description: There’s only one place left to run—into forbidden arms.

When she arrives at Ye Olde Haven Pub, the sanctuary for Trueblood Vampires, Regina is wounded and desperate. Her only thought is to save the Deva Clan, her family, from the dangerous Loups De L’Ombre, the Shadow Wolves. She knows she will not exactly be welcomed with open arms. She is, after all, an Unborn, the lowest caste of Vampire.

As a natural born from the purest line, Zander Sariel knows the rules are sacrosanct—a Trueblood mates with his own kind. But one taste of the young Unborn is all Zander needs to know that rules were made to be broken.

With enemies at every turn, Zander risks everything to save Regina from the monster that hunts her, his own kind’s ignorance and—if he must—her lack of faith in her own unique abilities.
Only together do they have a chance to defeat the shadow that haunts their future, and save their entire race from extinction.

Available in ebook and Trade Paperback- My Bookstore & More

Book Description: Two mates. One sacrifice. It’s a challenge that could save them all…or destroy everything.

Because of his own carelessness, Lux Sariel lost his lover at the hands of the shaman Gray Wolf, and put his Trueblood family in grave danger. Now he’s been sent on a mission to find and protect his mortal enemy’s sister. His companion is Arygon, a sexy Alpha who won’t take no for an answer.

When the two men find Sylvain, a sheltered and innocent beauty with power beyond imagining, passions ignite—and suddenly none of them are certain of the future.

No one but the Goddess.

She has a plan that will change everything for Her children, Were and Vampire alike. A challenge that will fulfill the promise of what this unusual threesome have found together…or destroy them all.

Only Available in ebook- My Bookstore & More

OUT TODAY!
Book Description: Not even the Goddess can save him…but maybe love can.

A Sariel guard, Kit has spent centuries fulfilling his people’s oath to protect the Trueblood Clan. Not Vampire, not Were, and certainly not human, Kit is something altogether…different. And when he is called back home to honor his obligations one last time, he can do none other than obey.

Jesse experiences life behind the lens of a camera. The only time she truly lives is in her dreams. For years she’s imagined a world filled with werewolves, vampires, magic. And him. When she realizes that not only is her dream world real, but the giant of her fantasies is in danger, she’ll have to jump in with both feet, and trust her heart. In Kit’s arms, she learns love is as infinite as time.
But so is a bitter god’s thirst for vengeance.

After a thousand years of duty, Jesse’s love is a gift from the Goddess. But for Kit, it might have come too late…

[ARC Review] - Bride of the Wolf

Title: Bride of the Wolf
Author: Jennifer St. Giles
Series: Shadowmen
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Year: 2009

I received this book for review from the author.

Summary and Blurb: When the heroic werewolf Navarre is trapped in the twilight realm, his Shadowmen comrades are unable to rescue him. Only a passionate woman with a spirit as wild as his own can set him free...

Oil heiress Marissa Vasquez fled the jungles of Belize to avoid becoming a pawn in her vicious uncle's wicked schemes. Though she has found temporary sanctuary in little Twilight, Tennessee, only in her dreams does she taste freedom. At night, her spirit intertwines with a magnificent black wolf, and they run together under the glow of a forest moon. When a wounded stranger is brought to the camp where she is hiding, she glimpses in his eyes the mysterious being who has been the partner of her visions. But before she can explore her strange reaction to this man, they are kidnapped and imprisoned once again.

Navarre is a shape shifting Shadowman, captured by the evil Vladarian vampire who hopes to control Marissa. Injured and blind, he struggles to regain his warrior's strength as they fight for their freedom -- and their lives. Together, their spirits form a powerful link matched only by the passion they discover in each other's arms. But can a mortal woman attain true love with a man who is half wolf? And will their enemies give them time to find an answer?

Thoughts: Marissa and Navarre were introduced in early books. Their story began in Kiss of Darkness and continues in this fourth installment. The battle between good and evil continues... For me this book was a bit darker then the rest. Both characters have been through so much that I didn't see how it would work out But to see them finally come together was great. While this book was enjoyable, for me Kiss of Darkness was the better book. If you haven't given this series a try I highly recommend it. Especially if you have a soft spot for werewolves.

Burning Alive- Shannon K. Butcher

And where did I find the new Charlaine Harris in the Young Adult Section again, what it is up with that. This is the third time I've found her books at Walmart in the YA Section. They had two copies. I moved the other one over to the other hardcovers where it should be. LOL!

Book Giveaway: Bride of the Wolf

Jennifer St. Giles has offered up another chance to win a signed book. This time around it's the 4th Shadowmen book- Bride of the Wolf. To enter leave a comment. I will post the winner and my review on Monday May 11th. Contest is open to all. Good Luck!

Book Description:

When the heroic werewolf Navarre is trapped in the twilight realm, his Shadowmen comrades are unable to rescue him. Only a passionate woman with a spirit as wild as his own can set him free....

Navarre is a shapeshifting Shadowman, captured by the evil Vladarian vampire who hopes to control Marissa. Injured and blind, he struggles to regain his warrior's strength as they fight for their freedom — and their lives. Together, their spirits form a powerful link matched only by the passion they discover in each other's arms. But can a mortal woman attain true love with a man who is half wolf? And will their enemies give them time to find an answer?

[Review] - Lover Avenged

Title: Lover Avenged
Author: J.R. Ward
Series: Black Dagger Brotherhood
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Year: 2009

Summary: Caldwell, NY, has long been the battleground for the battleground for the vampires and their enemies, the Lessening Society. It’s also where Rehvenge has staked out his turf as a drug lord and notorious nightclub that caters to the rich and heavily armed. His shadowy reputation is exactly why he’s approached to kill Wrath, the Blind King, and leader of the Brotherhood.

Rehvenge has always kept his distance from the Brotherhood, even though his sister is married to a member. Because he’s a sympath, his identity is a deadly secret- the revelation of which will result in his banishment to a colony for sociopaths. And as plots within and outside the Brotherhood take their toll against Rehvenge, he turns to the only source of light in a darkening world- Elhena, a vampire untouched by the corruption that has its hold on him- and the only thing standing between him and eternal destruction.

Thoughts: I finished reading Rehv's book a few days ago. I had plans to take it slow and savor it, but that never works as planned. I finished it in about three days, the story really sucked me in and I loved every minute. There is something about each brother I like and I've enjoy all the books. While Zsadist has always been my favorite brother, I think Lover Avenged is the best story in the series.

Once again there are different plots going on. Lassiter and Tohr were great. It was also nice that we got to see more of Wrath and Beth. Even though the brothers & their Shellens appear in the other books I feel Wrath and Beth have been pushed out of the picture alot.

I was never a big fan of Rehv's but this book really made me like him. The development between Rehv and Ehlena was sweet, tempting and very sexy. The only things that I didn't really like were the Lessers (sorry but they bore me to no end). Then there is John Matthew. I don't like the turn his character has taken. But I assume and hope the issues will get resolved in future books. Other than those two factors I felt the book was solid and a great read.
